Bonn on the river Rhine in Germany, was founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago. It grew into a town of some influence and is most famous as the birthplace of the composer Ludwig van Beethoven (1770). From 1949 to 1990 it was the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany.
